Have you ever seen 'Shark Tank' - the show about entrepreneurs making their pitch and bringing their creative business ideas to life with the help of investors? In this era of startups, dotcoms, and social networking, people are making new businesses happen even with the challenges of our current economy.
We at Young Leaders are picking up on this entrepreneurial movement and have been engaging young people in "missional entrepreneurship" for the building up of God's kingdom on earth! High School students in our Metro Youth Encounter are preparing for new youth group projects in 2010 by exploring the biblical witness on leadership and practicing how to engage their social networks in these new endeavors. Our Catalyst group at Wayne State University meets weekly to learn about the City of Detroit and to prepare themselves for service-based endeavors after the New Year.
We truly believe that these young people will be the ones to lead the church to where we need to be for the next century.
Of course YOU can play a role in this missional entrepreneurship as well! Any project, like those being constructed by YLI participants, only works to its fullest when connected with INVESTORS. So we are looking for "angel investors" and "VCs" (Vision Catalysts) to help the work of YLI continue. Angel investors are those who choose to make monetary contributions at the earliest stages of a ministry project. Vision Catalysts (like venture capitalists) are those who invest to see the project continue in the long haul.
For YLI, our Angel Investors are those who can make one time donations to support the experience of a particular participant:$1,000 for a MYE High School student, $5,000 for a summertime college intern, $10,000 for a week of Motown Mission Experience scholarships.
Our Vision Catalysts are persons who can make ongoing monthly donations to the continuation of YLI's missional incubator, and who would like to help engage others in similar support. VC's can pledge at various levels of monthly support including NURTURING - $5/mo, ENGAGING - $25/mo, and RESOURCING - $100/mo.
