Picture this: your church service has just ended and you are heading into the fellowship hall. Upon entering there is a ruckus at one end of the hall and their is a flurry of young people in matching t-shirts making noise. Suddenly one spies you and approaches. You know you'll soon be heading home with some cookies, or a baked good, or a washed car.
BUT, instead of just asking for your money, this youth takes you over to see their display - a series of posters and statistics detailing a major crisis in the world and telling the story of how together with the congregation of this church these youth intend to help end this crisis as evidence of the call of God in their lives to serve and love others.
This kind of thing happens every Sunday in our churches. Young people grabbing our attention and dragging us into the kinds of missional living that help us better transform the world in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Metro Youth Encounter is an incubator for nurturing young people like that, and for helping them build or renew the youth ministries of your church! We are busy putting together our 2009-2010 class of MYE students and would love for YOU to nominate a youth who you can imagine changing the world for good and for God.
Please visit youngleadersinitiative.org for more information and to nominate a youth from your Detroit-area United Methodist church. Thanks!
