Hello YLI friends!

In the course of working with our various programs I get the chance to see some great connections being made between our young people and the neighborhoods and people we interact with. This past Saturday our MYE youth went down to the Hope District to work with the Friends of Detroit on some urban gardening.

On the way down, Robert P. was telling me about his plans to work in politics to help lift Detroit out of some of its trouble. Even though he's only in High School and neither of us currently live in the City, he was asking for my vote for his mayoral campaign!

But when we arrived at the Hope District we met Andrew, a City Year member who gave Robert some great tips on getting connected to the city through service. It reminded me of the engagement that Jesus calls us to have with those around us - we should always be seeking out those relationships that will help us make room for God's grace in our lives and in our communities.

That's the kind of connection that you all make possible in your support and participating in YLI. Thanks for making that happen.
